Early Admissions Program for Florida High School Students

General Information

The Early Admissions Program enables qualified public, private, and home-school students who have completed the junior year to enroll in approved academic courses offered through Florida Atlantic University. If accepted for early admission, the student enters FAU instead of attending high school for the senior year and will spend the fall and spring semesters full-time at FAU. The credits that students earn count toward both a high school diploma and a college degree.

Program Details

• Early Admissions courses are free to students who attend a Florida public college or university; this includes registration, tuition, and fees.
• Instructional materials (textbooks) are provided to public school students free of charge through the School Districts of Palm Beach and Broward Counties; however, students enrolled in home education programs or nonpublic secondary schools must provide their own instructional materials.
• When enrolled in an Early Admissions Program, students may only register for courses approved by the high school counselor and Early Admissions advisor at Florida Atlantic University.

Cost and Fees

• Tuition and matriculation fees are waived by the State of Florida for all Early Admissions students.
• Early Admissions students are responsible for the one-time Owl card student ID fee ($10) and the Transportation Access fee (includes parking decal) each semester.
• The recurring transportation access fee charge will appear on the student's FAU account each semester, with the following costs:
  • Fall: $76.90
  • Spring: $76.90
• If an Owl card has previously been issued through a dual enrollment program, it is not necessary to purchase a new one.

Orientation and Registration

• Incoming students are required to attend first-year orientation.
• Students must register online for orientation and are responsible for the orientation fee of $35.
• If students wish to bring a guest, there is an additional fee of $50 per person.

Course Selection

• Early Admissions students' priority is to fulfill the high school graduation requirements.
• Courses may be spread out between the fall and spring semesters.
• In addition, students may enroll in courses required to fulfill their general education and major requirements at FAU.
• Students are eligible to enroll in most 1000 and 2000-level classes.
• All prerequisites and/or co-requisites must be met before requesting to register for classes.
• Early Admissions students may only register for classes that are pre-approved by the high school guidance counselor and FAU's Early Admissions advisor.

Credit Load

• Early Admissions students must take a minimum of 12 credits and a maximum of 18 credits each semester.

Textbooks

• Public school students can obtain instructional materials (textbooks) free of charge through their school district.
• Non-public, private, charter, or home school students must pay for textbooks.
• Palm Beach County Public High School students cannot purchase books from the FAU bookstore and must use Booksmart.
• Broward County Public High School students can obtain textbooks from the University Bookstore.

Transcripts

• Unofficial transcripts are automatically mailed to the student's high school guidance counselor following the completion of the fall and spring semesters.
• Official transcripts can be ordered for a fee, and students should check with their guidance counselor regarding their school's policy on transcript requirements.
